What happens when you read?

I can talk endlessly about books and reading but I don’t wanna bore you.

When I talk about reading, the very first thing that hits my mind is a book.

Well,

I personally like physical books more than any ebooks or pdfs.

There are reasons behind it,

Firstly, I don’t want to blur my eyes early by staring screen for hours.

Secondly, Physical books mean feeling.

Whoa! I can’t forget the Feeling of touching pages, the smell of freshness, the font style, print quality and the body cover(especially hardbound).

Thirdly, I store books as memory and go for them whenever I need to.

Once in a discussion with my friend, we puzzled over a question I had never heard.

He asked me – what happens when you read?

I came home puzzled but also curious to find its answer.

So, here I wrote whatever I found.

Reading and mind.

Do one thing. First; Stop here

just go and pick up a book,

Any, but not a textbook.

Okay, Read for 5 minutes, and set a timer if you want.

Don’t cheat.

I hope you did the task,

don’t lie.

✋Read further only if you did the task.

Fine.🙋

Had you felt the change, the stress or thoughts you were stuck on before reading is now gone?

You feel relaxed and excited to know further what will happen after the task.

Similarly,

When we are reading our mind goes into a different zone where it is exploring things, understanding itself, and the context.

Sometimes the brain feels short-term pain when it is overwhelmed by clashes of thoughts between the book and your own.

But don’t worry it’s just a rewiring process of the brain. That’s how this machine works.

Reading and body.

You will feel nothing in your body when you are reading.

The effect of reading on the body works when the thing you read is understood by your brain and the brain is ready to apply it.

So, what if my brain is never ready to work in favour of my body? If this thought comes to your mind, you should laugh hard.🤣

The brain is part of the body if the body will work properly then the brain too & vice versa.

So, don’t worry.

For eg., you read somewhere that regular exercise of just 10 minutes can make you healthy and simultaneously your brain understands it.

Then your mischievous mind will force you to work out, it will give you a regret feeling until you start exercising, it will anyhow bend your time to do exercise.

And you will find yourself exercising.

Why do I read?

I still remember that I gained interest in books after reading “how to influence” by dale Carnegie.

It took me 45 days to finish that book.

But the daily pickup of that book at any cost mindset helped me a lot and after I finished the book it gave me a sense of accomplishment.

Which I needed the most at that time cause I was suffering from medical and biz things.

After that, I picked one book after another and it became my habit, I read 18 books that year.

I am a slow reader, but before! Now sometimes I read a book in 2 days or less.

Well, the point is,

In book reading

You may feel pain in the short term but gain in the long term,

as you gain knowledge from books it will add new links in your mind and can /will definitely help you at any point in life

because you have already absorbed a lot of knowledge already.

One of the main reasons is that

I was stuck in a bit-size knowledge trap from insta, FB, youtube and more.

I was overwhelmed and started thinking I knew everything until I understood that “half knowledge is poisonous”.

Now it is like,

whenever I pick up a book on a specific topic it opens my mind and forces me to think in a different way

and I think that’s my dopamine.

Why should you read?

I was so shocked how Worsley we are trapped in this social media bit-size knowledge trap.

Quotes and knowledge from great books are delivered to you in a few seconds, shorts, or posts.

Getting them isn’t harmful until you apply them, but implementing them without the proper understanding is a big threat.

One reason I personally like the most is

To live 100 lives. The way to live 100 lives, is to read 100 books.

You should read to

  • Explore different zones of living generations. The work that generations have done or upcoming will do you can read and learn anytime.
  • Feel the cosmos or dive into the ocean, just sitting on a chair in your mind. It will open up your imagination to the next level.
  • Know yourself better. Reading gives you access to that knowledge where all your answers to life are kept.
  • Feel others’ empathy, it is proven that readers can feel others’ perspectives better than non-readers.

Future discrimination is not about the educated versus the uneducated, but it’s moreover about readers or non-readers.

To know what is? How is it? Where is it? We picked up the phone in seconds.

I know it’s the tech era but it has also paralysed our realm of thinking and taken us toward the machine zone where we humans are acting like nothing but living robots.

Reading a book keeps your mind active and reminds you that you are alive and living on a beautiful planet.

What to read?

Aah! here’s the most crucial part of the conversation.

People really read a lot, in fact, some read more than 100 books in a year.

But they are not readers in my view. Because they are reading anything like fiction (crime, romance, thriller, imaginative stories etc. novels).

Reading anything is not actual reading which mindful peoples of the world are suggesting you.

Think like this,

What is the benefit of reading 30 crime novels a year to you if you are a cloth designer?

Right! nothing.

It simply means,

You have to focus on reading only those books through which you can learn something or at least grow yourself.

Read anything is worthy when you know you are going to waste time on Netflix. It will count as entertainment.

Reading for sake of reading is just like watching Netflix for sake of time passing.

In both you waste time.

Pick a book only when you want to learn/understand/solve a problem/ explore/ develop your mind/ or anything which can excel you.

For example – if I need to learn communication skills I will pick only those books which focus on that subject.

It will fulfil my need and keep me from being bored because my mind needs to learn that knowledge.

Well, my first book is “How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie” when I think I was an introvert.

Reading habit

If somebody asks me which habit is the easiest to make. I will shout aloud. Reading!

Do you want to make it?

Yes! Right now.

Just follow 1 single step and you will end up reading 36 books in a year.

And as many as you want, if you improve yourself.

Just read 30 pages daily. And stick to it no matter what.

On average, let’s suppose. If one book is 300 pages.

You finish that in 10 days, and if continues then 3 books in a month and 3(books)×12(months)=36(books) in a year.

It will be stiff,

only until you develop the habit.

You have to be very patient,

as Warren buffet put it right.

“No matter how great the talent or efforts, some things just take time. You can’t produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant.”

Warren Buffett

Tailpiece

While reading,

  • Imaginations, illustrations, calculations, and questions all flow into your head in a fraction of seconds, it gives your mind a thrill as well as the power to explore more. So, chill & let them flow.
  • Sometimes you got answers to your past questions, sometimes you found new ones.
  • You will stop feeling alone anymore and may start liking that solitude.

And one thing last, the

😔Content is not from the context of academic books.

Because they’re boorringgg.😢

Can I simply say what a comfort to find someone that actually understands what theyre discussing on the net. You actually realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people really need to read this and understand this side of your story. I was surprised that youre not more popular since you definitely possess the gift.
