One day my friend ask me: Vicky! why are you keep working on the e-business thing unlike you are failing again and again?

I replied: I am not getting big results instantly but will get definitely them.

He sneered: And said you don’t know that you are in a trap of no profit = loss.

That thing goes above my head. I asked confused! what does it mean?

He answered: “Whatever in business or life you do if it doesn’t give you profit, that means you are at a loss”.

I became more curious to know more about this statement. So, I research in-depth, read some books, ask some elders.

Everybody describe their own opinion but all came to the same conclusion as told by my friend.

But the interesting thing starts. When I experience it in my business life and found that.

There is something where we all understood this statement wrong.

Wanna know it, read the full article carefully now.

What does it actually mean?

The interesting thing is that the more you read this statement again and again and at different stages of life. You will find a completely different meaning coming out of it.

Observing your own past actions according to it can give you a guilty feeling.

But the meaning of this statement that I found can be the same at every stage of life.

Q:- What is the meaning of ‘no profit = loss’ in life/business?

Ans:- In life/business, whatever we do for making it better. If our decisions don’t give us desired result that means we lossed our time, efforts, money ‘to perform that no profit task’.

Old saying

Many people may take my friend’s statement wrong. By using the word Profit he wants to describe the things we do to add value to our life.

Either by doing good business, balancing relationships etc. He is not talking about absolute monetary profits.

Well, old people had always transferred their wisdom to the new era. But we can’t deny that they also transferred their wrong beliefs. Which at any cost need to change.

That is my opinion.

“No Learning = Loss”

old people say no profit is equal to loss, but new people say no learning is equal to loss.

You understand the old saying no profit = loss. Now see what is the new saying. No Learning = loss.

Q:- What is mean by No Learning = Loss?

Ans:- In life/business, whatever you do for making it better. Either you fail or succeed. If you learned something out of it. You never be at loss. But if you not learned anything out of it. You will be at absolute loss.

New saying

Diving into the depth of the new saying and we found that there are two phases of this new statement – The positive aspect and the negative aspect.

why no learning is equal to loss. If you not learn from your mistakes you are at loss.

As per the old saying, we believe that if our efforts, energy, and time spent on something don’t give us the desired result, is equal to the total loss of our time, money, energy and efforts.

Do you agree with me that in life or business “only results matter in the end”? Am talking here for efficient results only.

No matter how hard you work on a project. If it doesn’t give the desired result in the end, people around will see it as a failure.

If you were an average kid like me in school, you remember how hard we had studied to gain around 70% marks. But people only talk to toppers, they don’t even look at us.

Actually, as per the new saying, we are never at a loss, find how? read carefully from now.

(No Learning = loss) Path 1 – Not Learned

In a nutshell: When you did a mistake and didn’t learn.

For example as per Path 1,

Tom’s boss called him, rushing a file toward Tom
he ordered; this task should be done in 1 week, this task will decide your promotion or demotion.

The statement is almost dehydrated Tom.

But then he decides to work on a project to finish it effectively before the deadline.

After a week, the boss’s assistant arrived at Tom’s desk and told him that the boss is going to demote him.

Shocking Tom asks, big why?

She replied: You are not able to deliver the desired result which causes a heavy loss to the boss.

Tom rose and start blaming his fortune. He shouts in his mind by saying no profit = loss.

A few months after, at his new job, this situation repeated, he thought history is repeating itself.

He is again fired. This time he is more fretful with his fortune and keeps shouting in mind that no profit = loss is true.

These bosses take my energy, time and efforts and what I get in return is a fired-off message. What the hell! he is totally scorched.

Keep the Tom story in mind I will continue it after path 2.

(No Learning = loss) Path 2 – Learned

In a nutshell: When you did a mistake and you learned.

For example as per Path 2,

Similarly, Tom and his colleague Jack also have to face the same situation.

Jack was also assigned the do-or-die task, with a poor deadline, he also tried his best and submit the task in the hope of praise from the boss.

But as Fortune decided to play a game boss didn’t get the expected result and give Jack a fired-off message.

Jack knows about the new saying and thought in mind if I leave the office without knowing my mistakes, I will never be able to correct them in future. So he decided to meet the boss.

Jack takes the boss’s permission to enter the cabin and after ready himself to ask about his mistake.

He starts: Sir I am apologetic for not delivering the task as per your expectation but it is also true that I have put my 100% into it, I honestly want to know where did I make the fallacy.

The boss thought that Jack will try to convince him to accept the apology. But, he likes his honesty and decided to explain.

He started: Jack do you know I had already cleared you about the promotion and demotion, and also give you a 1-week deadline, and you accept it without any questions?

Jack answered yes.

Boss: That task’s real deadline is 2 weeks and it is impossible for anyone to finish it efficiently within a week, but you finish in a week by doing cut-short work, to just finish off the task.

Jack was surprised and excited as well to know more, he said why do you give me a 1-week deadline even knowing about the consequences?

.

Boss: Our company is going to collab with the government on a big social welfare project, for which our company is responsible to complete the task in an efficient manner. There is no place for mistakes in that project, so the company decided to take employees’ mental tests.

And the amazing thing is that only a few candidates passed, almost all employees are overconfident and more excited to take promotion, nobody finishes the project with efficiency, and nobody thought about the desired result.

Boss: I am impressed with your learning attitude and I have decided to give you another chance, what do you think?.

Jack: Of course sir, why not I am ready. I understood my mistake in that I focused on working hard without thinking about the demand for desired results. I will never repeat the mistake again.

Jack left the room and happily hummed “No learning = loss”.

The Clue

For easy understanding you can say that: {No Learning = Loss} is true & in-depth meaning of (No Profit = Loss).

When Tom meets Jack

Tom: I heard that boss also fired you. Today is a bad day, he added.

Jack: You heard wrong, I am safe now,

Tom: had you completed the task, Jack said ‘No’ Then why?

Jack: I applied “no learning = loss”, Tom, I heard about no profit = loss, what is that and how does it save you?

Jack: Boss also fired me but I remember the new saying and I asked the boss to explain my mistakes so that I can correct them. And Jack told his full story to Tom.

Jack: If I left without knowing the mistake, a strong possibility will be that I will repeat them and lose my job again n again. Boss taught me a good lesson and that’s why I am happy to learn.

Conclusion

Two phases of the statement force us not to judge it from any of its single sides.

One side state that:” getting nothing from your effort is pure loss of your effort”.

But another side, as per observation states that: “not learning from mistake is a pure loss”

We saw both Tom and Jack’s situation and understood that the person who either fails or succeeds after struggling if he learned a lesson from it, will never be at a loss.
