I believe, that even a person who does not even do online selling must have heard from his friend about product listing and launching.

but the funny thing is that almost 99% of the time’ people (including sellers) see the listing and launching of a product, as a similar thing.

Listing and Launching are both shown as a product to the customer. Then, what is the difference between them? and is it really matter?.

1. True meaning

Placing actually means to give something a position where that thing can work as per our consideration.

In Listing we do placing whereas In Launching we do strategic presenting. In the listing, we just place the products on the website where any visitor can easily see them. But in Launching, we are not just placing. Instead, we present the product in such a strategic manner that will actually convert the visitor to a customer.

I got a very simple example – suppose jack & dot two employees are assigned to give a presentation on a specific topic, they both prepared well and at the time of delivery.

Jack finishes the presentation before time by placing an approach. so, he started delivering by giving stats, charts, data, numbers which bored the room environment. because jack tried to finish the presentation work asap, and that’s a thing many sellers does. They take product listing as a task, a boring task that should be finished as soon as possible with just effectiveness.

But dot, take another approach. like an interested kid about his new toys, he first explains facts, related points, some jokes, emotions, samples by indulging people in the room which create a different and happy environment. Because sellers like dot love and understand their product & buyers. they want to give super value, so dot takes time but presents in a strategic efficient manner.

2. Mindset error

You know what traditional business people think alike, they always use to believe that “variety of products = more customer“. And it is true if we talk about the offline market, that’s why departmental stores still exist.

But it is not true in online selling, because a customer is just a few clicks away from his favourite brand or product. whereas in the offline market for product ‘A,’ we have to go east and for product ‘B’ we have to go west, which is frustrating and a major cause for the rapid growth of the online selling industry.

Many sellers use that same traditional thinking of the offline market in online selling, they think that the more they list the more sales they get.

Doing bulk listings in repetition will only increase the duplication of products because somewhere a seller of your same category also thinks like you and lists without thinking.

Many half-knowledge people so-called themself, ‘experts’ are available free on youtube because of earning affiliation income from online sellers.

which causes the diversion of so many new sellers, they started believing that the larger their inventory size the more sales they will get.

A true expert will never advise you to increase your inventory size because we know it is easy to focus on 10 products except for 1000 products.

If you agree with me, believe me, many new sellers have indeed changed their entire online selling journey by launching just one product.

Because in launching our thinking is more focused from the buyer perspective not from the profit.

For instance – Try to self think it, there are two sellers A & B. ‘A’ start doing listing of products, suppose thousand. and B uses to just launch 10 products by taking the proper time and in-depth research of customers with strategic targeting.

now there may be a chance that ‘A’ is getting sales. suppose 400 products out of 1000 listing are started selling, now he daily start his day with hepatic hassles like to pack and ship 400 different products and when return came he is also unable to track them accurately. when any festive sale came he stuck in managing the mess.

And on the other side ‘A’ started getting sales of his 10 products like 150 products daily, he has no issue in packing, shipping, return, in fact, his sales double in-season time and he also got very less returns. because he had already understood what customers want in his product.

You are smart enough to guess who will lead the market for a long time A or B. Completely yes‼ ‘A’.

3. Market Domination

Market Domination means “acquiring the maximum market share of your sector”.

Domination may sound like a harsh word, but we observe daily and love it if we dominate our business sector. I want to clearly mention that here, domination refer to ‘lead the market‘ by being above from competition/competitors.

When we talk about market dominance in online selling things revolve in our mind that how any seller can dominate the website. Where the control is in the hands of the customer, he searches for his requirement, the website shows some related options, then he buys whatever he likes.

I underlined “related option” above because it is the catch of domination, let’s do it practically, open your amazon> type keyword ‘mobile under’> you see search box became wide and giving suggestions like mobile under 5k,10k,20k etc.>click on mobile under 10,000> you will see many options and also see some ads banners, sponsorship. this is how the related option that works on Amazon.

you see many different brands competing there in the list, some use ads, sponsorship, banner, etc tricks to come first in the related list. Because options that are ‘firstly’ shown to the customers- have a 70% chance of customer conversion rate.

But what a person with a listing mindset is doing! is throwing bundles of listings on the platform, using to place ads, waiting for sales.

Without knowing that there is no such thing as “luck”, only our actions and results are there.

Surprisingly you will see that in the list of top 20 related products shown to customers, there will be some products ranking just next to the ads listings, which too have positive ratings, without ads & promotions are attracting customers. that is none other than a Launched product listing.

And the reality is that these types of Launched listings are making true profits because they understand ads are not really good enough as they sound, in fact, most sellers fall into the money burner trap of advertisement.

Actually, most listers fall into the trap of ads bcz they don’t try to understand customer intent and burn money to attract sales. But the good news is that if you are a Product launcher you will stay away from an ads trap because I believe you bring products after understanding customers’ hope.

But I recommend you both to read at least one time about this ad trap because many of them are truly hidden & it takes me 2 years to identify them.

So, you see a clear view that there is hard competition on a single keyword and you are fooling yourself by thinking that the marketplace will give you a place in those 20 related products only with just listings.

4. Algorithms matter’s

What makes an online selling business ‘automatic’▬> yes, Algorithms. Almost all sector in the world of business relies on algorithms, thus its importance is splendid.

No matter you are selling on your website or marketplace. Like laws and regulations, we have to follow algorithms. sound’s ♫ powerful! of course, it is.

Algorithms are basically “processes of solving problems”. They are made up of complex interactions such that changes in one algorithm affect another. For instance, think of how fast an OTP is sent to your mobile for verification after entering your mobile number.

Haven’t you still wondered that in online selling you ignoring such a powerful thing. By understanding the algorithms of the platform on which you are selling, you can reach an optimum level beyond the competition.

Because there is no such magic that can fall customers for your product, there is only your own strategy to launch a product so that algorithms too will support your listing.

5. Customer footfall

Customer Footfall in the business world refers to the number of incoming customers to your business.

Let’s take the example of a jewellery showroom. Before entrance what you observe, is that they had created a mind-calming outside environment. When you enter in you feel a warmth, aroma followed by perfect lighting.

You sat on soft chairs with a polite welcome by staff, you rolled your eyes to capture the giant beautifully implanted sene and product displays. And then a staff assigned to assist you, showing you different exited products.

You liked something but you’re hesitant, that’s when the employee congratulates you and reveals you’ve won a 10% discount coupon and then you happily buy the product.

Similarly, in an online platform ( own website, Amazon, Flipkart etc.) customers get a better experience by comfortably sitting at home and diving into different brand displays, videos, content, offers, coupons in their smartphone.

I had bold the letter brand above because brands are those who focus on Launching the product rather than listing, we know in online purchasing customers can’t feel or touch the products.

That’s why these brands highly focus on launching their product in such a way that customers get a better experience of visualising the product through its images, videos, reviews, the content on their smartphones.

This is also another reason for the success of the E-commerce industry.

Everybody will advise you to use a good Photo, Ads, Coupons but it is half information which is more dangerous than no information.

The truth behind the better attraction of customer footfall is not that short. You have to create a plan of whole product launch from research to 1st product selling journey with detailed information.

A Product Launch in short.

Plan to bring a better product above the competition with a good margin, bring its sample, get photography, branded content, design its coupon or promotion, decide ads budget then launch it on the specific event as per product nature. eg. launch Santa clause costume before arriving of Christmas.

I easily wrote the launch in a short paragraph. But the actual action of these lines can take up to a month of effort (depending on the product you bring).

Think it easily like this, On amazon where do you prefer to buy from a product. From a listing with few no information images & old lines not describing product well or from a brand which displays exited images full of detail benefit of the product you received and good customer ratings.

In my initial 3 years, I focused on the listing, I believed that the more I list the more sales I will get, I thought that if I listed 1000 products, I would get 100 products sales anyhow.

Now I laugh at myself, how fast I was running on the wrong track.

Always launch your product one by one with undivided focus, if you are in process of launching a product don’t think or work for any other product, it will only distract you from the efforts you have to put into that product.

Launching is a preplanned strategy which is planned to avoid negative circumstances, you may be late but when your product enter’s it will surely dominate the market that is full of listers.

The launch is a tough game but if learned to play it, you definitely never lose in the online selling business.
