Kunzum’s History

Kunzum’s brand name came from a high mountain pass in the eastern Kunzum Range of the Himalayas.

The founder Ajay Jain, who is himself a traveller, writer, photographer and entrepreneur laid its foundation by the name of Kunzum Travel Cafe in 2010.

Kunzum travel cafe was a hot spot for travellers, people came and enjoy the community or experience of other people. Sitting and coffee were free at that time, also with a pay-what-you-like revenue model. Mostly profit was coming from events and through selling photography.

After the pandemic in 2020, he decided to restart with a worthful impact on people. His belief and idea that reading can save people from distractions, helped him to rebrand kunzum into a book brand.

Now, from this year 2022, they launched their 5 stores altogether to make a wide presence.

Kunzum books?

Everything is changed now except their tagline – “It’s the way you think“.

Now, it’s a complete bookstore with thousands of curated books as heaven for book lovers.

It is true that their curation is top amongst all bookshops in Delhi, till now.

Kunzum for customers?

  • At any kunzum store, you can browse freely as many as books you want, and after purchase, you can use their reading space over your choice of beverage.
  • Beverage includes hot coffee/tea, lemon or green tea with a special brownie as a compliment.
  • Apt book curation for kids, except (Hauz Khas store).
  • They keep organising multiple events with authors, poets and other artists. Sometimes there is an entry fee, sometimes not. Follow @kunzum for regular updates.
  • The purchase of a book is mandatory to have coffee or sit.
  • Good thing is that there is no minimum limit on book purchases.
  • You can also draw/doodle with art material after purchase.
  • You can’t read your own book, and for that, you again have to make a purchase.
  • No work, mobile, eateries or tech allowed, only reading is allowed. Amazing isn’t it?
  • Good basic facilities like clean drinking water and rest room.
  • The best days to visit or quiet reading are (Mon to Thur), busy during weekends.
  • After the purchase of 4 books or up to 1000/- Rs, you can pick any one book from their pre-love book section for free. And after reading you can exchange it anytime.

Kunzum for work?

  • It totally depends on what kind of role you are going for.
  • Six-day work schedule, no Sunday off if you’re in sales, anytime rotation b/w 5 stores.
  • It will be amazing for you if you join a backend or senior-level job in which you are directly connected with the founder.
  • Good for internships.
  • Best job! if you love books and things related to them.
  • Not optimum for freshers in sales roles.
  • Fine departments to join (events, content creation, tech support, inventory or backend).
  • You will get a chance to meet wonderful people(customers), authors and artists.
  • Check out new openings, or directly email (books@kunzum.com).

Kunzum for authors?

  • Kunzum will soon become a spot for young readers.
  • Placing your book in Kunzum’s special author sign section can be a great opportunity for you.
  • Promote or spread awareness of your books to a specific target audience.
  • Arrange an event with a real audience, and know what are their opinions.
  • You just require your publisher to talk with them directly.
  • The only way to reach them is to email (books@kunzum.com/events@kunzum.com).
  • Also, you can reach us to get an ‘unbiased review’ of your book. CLICK ME.

Kunzum for events?

  • They have very good space for events, especially DT mega mall (gurugram).
  • Can do events related to books, poetry, writing, conversation, therapy etc.
  • Hauz Khas village store is the smallest, Jorbag lounge/store is specifically for events.
  • Maximum capacity of approx 60 members (Megamall).
  • Reach them at (events@kunzum.com).

Some insiders?

  • Good and growing online presence.
  • Management is still in progress.
  • Store locations are fine.
  • The stores still need branding.
  • Profitability can take more time.
  • Still lack marketing and consumer awareness.
  • Some unsatisfied employees want to take each other’s posts.
  • Overheads are very high. Still, they didn’t install CCTV cameras yet.
  • A complaint or suggestion box can improve transparency.
  • The company strongly needs genchi genbutsu.

Here, is the real thing!⚡

What is the Rt score of kunzum books?

Kunzum Books Real Truth Score

Kunzum Books Real truth Score

Customer Experience

Based on summarised ratings from Google and in-personal customer meetings, it got a 3.2 out of 6 rating. One star is deducted as people are still facing in-store hardships (for example).

Experts critics

Based on LinkedIn and other research it got 3 stars. Two are deducted for lack of after-sales support and work culture.

Economic

One star is deducted because of The No-discount policy which sometimes hurts low-budget consumers.

Contentment

It can’t be denied in any case that the brand is really working on the push of physical reading and if you love books kunzum is the best place to hang out.

Downer is that you have to buy a book every time you want to sit or read, even if you just bought one from Kunzum self.

Det Bästa

The best thing is their ‘vision’ of ‘promoting physical reading over digital’ which is a need of this era, and when everybody fears opening a traditional book store they open and mean to it well.

Det Värsta

The worst thing is that the brand is still lacking from the inside, It may seem perfect to a customer but management is facing trouble, which sometimes leads to a bad experience for employees and customers.

Kunzum books Conclusion

Overall kunzum book store got a 3.2 out of 6 Rating.⭐That means you can have at least one time visit to their store.

Well,
from the customer’s point of view especially if you are a book lover, this brand is worth visiting and spending time with.

From a working perspective as much as my experience, if you are a fresher then kunzum is not for you! you better can opt for their backend jobs like writing, events, tech support etc.

You will be an advantage if your job is connected with the founder self.

Epilogue

I would like to thank kunzum personally.

Here I met wonderful people, especially customers who changed the way I think.

I learned more than expected.

At this point, the Review is over.

Below is my reason to quit. Alert! not relevant to review.

8/Oct/22 – I quit

Why did I quit my first job? what are the reasons?

First and only strong reason

I was trying to balance my studies with my job but I wasn’t able to do it. So, I decided to leave.
And the irony is people are not believing in this.🤣

->The second but not a strong reason

Before reading further answer my question: Suppose you are hired as a store manager in a company, but after a month you get to know you are not a store manager. You enquire about the reason and found you were trapped in a dirty political game. What will you do? What will be your opinion of the company?

On 31st October, I got a call from a so-called “operation manager” in a furious tone.

She said: why are you handling petty cash, who permits this to you?

I replied: no one! ma’am (because no one is assigned to the store to handle petty cash, as a store manager I took this responsibility)

Her tone increases a little bit and said ‘vikram’ you are not a store manager.

I think she lost her mind! She was just right there with Ajay sir(founder) in the interview when we discussed that I am joining for the store manager role and on a store visit founder himself told everybody that I have to manage this Store.

I asked, then who I am? She said you nothing more than a staff, call cut.

A staff also means to ‘sweeper’ is am I that?

On that day I was just going to call Ajay sir but my colleagues calm me and I think I was overreacting to this situation, so I decided to forgive her and give her another chance. That I never gave anybody who tried to disrespect me.

After that, I face some more dirty political issues like that and In final I know better that ‘no matter what I can’t disrespect a woman. So I choose to simply leave.

.

Many of you will think why didn’t I talk to the founder directly?

I didn’t want to throw tantrums like a kid, Ajay sir’s schedule was very strict and I respect this. Although, I joined kunzum to gain experience not to fight.

But,

As much as I know Ajay sir. Had I apprised him of the situation, he would have immediately handed me an offer letter, with the store manager, Hkv written in bold letters.

But till now I already made up my mind to leave. I tried to tolerate it but was unable to do for more than 40 days.

When everybody is forcing me, here is the truth.

Title, tag & money don’t matter to me, but self-respect! undoubtedly 100% matters.

The moral of the story is

“Never wrestle with a pig because you’ll both get dirty and the pig likes it.”

George Bernard Shaw

I have so many things to say but I know a wise man always rests things in karma’s hand and move forth.

My humble request to the founder, if it is possible please forgive her and give her a chance to improve once more. So that no one else has to bear what I suffered.
